Traceline · Last updated: July 16, 2026

The Traceline app is a private, on-device health tracker. Your health data stays on your phone. There is no app account, login, analytics, or tracking SDK.

What Traceline stores

Sleep, mood, energy, stress, and GI ratings; heart-rate variability, resting heart rate, weight, and workout data; supplement and substance logs; meal logs; genomic marker annotations you enter yourself; compatibility-only legacy health records contained in a backup you choose to import; and any supplement changes you track.

Where it lives

All of the above is stored only on your device, using Apple's SwiftData framework. Nothing is uploaded to a server operated by Traceline's developer. There is no account, login, or analytics/tracking SDK of any kind.

Apple Health (HealthKit)

With your explicit permission, Traceline can read certain data from Apple Health — heart-rate variability, resting heart rate, and sleep duration and stages — to fill in your daily entries so you don't have to type them. This happens entirely on your device. Any data read from Apple Health is stored only on your device under the same terms as everything else described here; it is never uploaded, sold, or used for advertising, and Traceline does not use it for any purpose other than filling in the entries you see in the app. You can grant or revoke this access at any time in the iOS Health app or Settings.

What leaves the device

Traceline does not automatically send your health, genomic, or logging data to the developer or to a third party. There is no account, app analytics, external AI service, or meal-photo scanning in this version. That data leaves only when you choose to export a backup or include information in a support email. App Store purchase communication is described separately below and never includes your health or logging data.

App Store purchases

When you buy or restore access, Traceline communicates with Apple through StoreKit. Apple processes the purchase using your App Store account and payment methods. Traceline reads Apple's verified product entitlement, introductory-offer eligibility, and subscription status on this device to decide whether active use is available. The developer does not receive your payment-card details. Buying or restoring access does not upload your health data, sync Apple Health, or import a data backup.

Help & Feedback

Send Feedback and Report a Problem open a draft in your mail app with Traceline's version and build, your iOS version, and device family. You can review, change, or cancel it before sending. Traceline never attaches your health logs, backup, or app logs automatically.

Backups you create

The Backup & Restore screen exports your tracked records as a plain-text JSON file for your own safekeeping or migration. It excludes historic meal-photo data and all App Store product identifiers, trial eligibility, subscription or renewal status, transaction identifiers, and lifetime-access state. Importing a backup cannot grant, revoke, or reset access and does not start Apple Health sync. Treat an export as sensitive: avoid channels you wouldn't trust with the original data, and delete old exports you no longer need.

Your control

You can edit or delete entries, supplements, substances, and genomic markers from within the app. Deleting the app removes all of its on-device data; there is no separate copy anywhere else for Traceline to delete on your behalf, because none exists.

Website analytics

The public traceline.co website uses GoatCounter to measure aggregate page views, referral campaigns, and clicks on the launch-list button. This website measurement is separate from the Traceline app and never receives your health, genomic, or logging data. GoatCounter does not place tracking cookies or create a profile that follows you across websites. Email addresses submitted to the launch list are handled separately by Buttondown.
